From September 2012 new assessment arrangements will be in place to support the Northern Ireland Curriculum.  These include arrangements for assessment of the cross-curricular skills of Communication and Using Mathematics in Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.  Throughout the past year teachers have received training (face-to-face and online) to support the introduction of these new assessment arrangements.  Assessment of Using ICT becomes statutory from September 2013.

Schools will still assess pupils’ progress in the key areas of Communication and Using Mathematics with reference to levels and report outcomes to parents and to CCEA at the end of each key stage, as is currently required.  However, from September 2012 pupils will be assessed using new Levels of Progression for Communication and Using Mathematics.  There will also be new moderation processes in place to quality assure outcomes.
